Tribal student bodies serve 5-day ultimatum on Govt

Imphal, February 20 2015 :
Extending their support to the demands of the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Regional Campus Manipur (IGNTU-RCM) Students' Union, Kuki Students' Union and All naga Students' Association, Manipur on Friday served a five-day ultimatum on the Manipur Government.
Students of the IGNTU-RCM have been demanding to fulfill their demands as assured by State government as well as authority of the University on several occasions.
The key demands of the Union include immediate completion of the approach road, electrification of campus and water supply connection at the permanent campus of the university at Makhan Village, Senapati district.
The construction of main buildings for the main campus of IGNTU-RCM has already been finished, but development of hostels; buildings to accommodate students, staff, faculty members and many others were yet to be launched.
Other demands of the students include recognition of IGNTU-RCM as an Autonomous Central University independent from IGNTU; reservation in recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff and admission of students, appointment of a full-time director for the university and separate fund allocation.
The Union has been pressing the Government to complete pending infrastructural requirements.
It has began boycotting classes and locking up the administrative block as part of its ongoing stir.
