Imphal, September 07 2015:
Four legislators belonging to Manipur unit of Naga People's Front (NPF) on Monday have formally resigned from their MLAship to protest against the recent three Bills passed in the State Assembly.
Meanwhile, State NPF sent a memorandum to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh urging him to dismiss the Manipur Government.
The memorandum was signed by party president Awangbou Newmai.
NPF MLAs Samuel Risom, Victor Nunglung and Dr V Alexander Pao personally came to the Assembly Secretariat and submitted the resignation letters to the Assembly Secretary at about 2:30 pm.
But MLA Dikho was waiting outside the Assembly Secretariat.
The NPF MLAs have resigned to register protest against the anti-Naga attitude of the Manipur Government, Awangbou Newmai told a press met at the party office in Dewlahland here.
He said the party has demanded dismissal of the State Government in a memorandum submitted to the Union Home Minister.
The Protection of Manipur Peoples Bill, 2015, the Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms Act, 1960 (Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2015, and the Manipur Shops and Establishments (Second Amendment) Bill are all anti-tribal Bills, Newmai said.
He also said the resolution adopted by the State Assembly included demand for making amendment of the Article 3 of the Indian Constitution, which is an anti-Naga and anti-national move.
In the memorandum to Rajnath, NPF said in order to stall and decimate the strenuous efforts of the Government of India in resolving the protracted Naga political problem, the O Ibobi Singh Government is leaving no stone unturned in taking all steps, including the legislative ones, so that the problem lingers on and the Nagas suffer.
It appealed to the Home Minister to immediately take stock of the political situation in the State of Manipur in the light of the deliberate misadventures of the State Government which has been allegedly trying to derail the Indo-Naga peace talks.
The Ibobi Government has emerged as a grave threat not only to the unity and integrity of the North East, but also to the entire nation, the memorandum added.
It urged Rajnath to dismiss the State Government in the interests of the unity and integrity of the country and in the interests of the people of Northeast region so that peace is paved and pervaded all over the region at the earliest.
