A Joint Action Committee (JAC) for the Protection of Tribal and Minority People's Right, Jiribam was formed by the student bodies of Hmar, Paite, Thadou-Kuki and Bengali Hindu and Muslim, and various social organizations of Jiribam.
This came after a joint meeting of the student bodies was held at Buthangkhal on Friday.
It also decided to impose a 48-hour chakka bandh along Imphal-Silchar Highway and Jiribam-Tipaimukh road from 6 am of September 7 .
A press statement of the newly formed JAC signed by its chairman R Hmar said that the JAC for the Protection of Tribal and Minority People's Right, Jiribam was formed since it was desired by the student bodies and various social organizations in the joint meeting where the three controversial bills were minutely discussed and resisted.
The joint meeting also strongly condemned the brutality of the Manipur Police Commandos who allegedly opened fire on the protesters in Churachandpur town leading to the loss of eight lives. While condemning the 'step motherly treatment' to the tribal populace and other minorities in the State by the 'communal Manipur Government' and the alleged high-handedness of Chief Minister O Ibobi Government in dealing with the protestors, the joint meeting also observed a one-minute silence in remembrance of the eight departed souls and resolved to observe a candle light vigil at 6.30 pm on Saturday.
R Hmar continued that the JAC has also decided to call a 48-hour chakka bandh along Imphal-Silchar highway and Jiribam-Tipaimukh road from 6 am of September 7 to protest against the passing of the three controversial bills.
Medical, religious duties, emergency services and media will be exempted from the purview of the bandh, said the chairman while urging all the tribal communities and Bengali Hindu and Muslim to cooperate with the JAC and extend support to the proposed strike.
