Mass condolence held

While the Nation observed the Teachers' Day today, the tribal people and other minority groups of Manipur observed a condolence service in remembrance of the 8 individuals killed in police firing in Churachandpur at Leimakhong bazar today.
A sit-in-protest was also organised by Leimakhong Area Chiefs' Organization and Leimakhong Area Youth Organization condemning the act of the police personnel.
The sit-in was joined by around 4500 tribal people and non-Manipuris of Leimakhong and adjoining areas.
Protesters held placards which read, "We condemn the Churachandpur incident", "Separate administration is the solution", "Why rubber bullets in Imphal and live bullets in Churachandpur?", "We oppose the anti-tribal Bills", etc.
Ex-MLA SL Paokhosei, Mawinu, vice president, Kuki Women's Union, Sadar Hills, village chiefs and Church leaders also spoke during the condolence service.
A mass prayer in remembrance of the "Tribal martyrs" was also conducted.
The gathering also contributed monetary aid for the bereaved
family members.
