Imphal, May 02 2023:
Taking serious note of the orientation and activities of some people which can potentially spark unwanted incidents among different communities and disturb the State's integrity, the AMUCO has appealed to all community leaders to take serious note of the matter and take up necessary measures so as to preserve the integrity of Manipur and promote cordial relationship among all the communities.
A statement issued by AMUCO also appealed to all those people and groups who are indulging in ethno-exclusive politics to retract their steps and help in bringing peace and harmony in the State.
Attempts to promote growth of one's own community at the cost of neighbouring communities should not be encouraged, it said.
The State Govt should identify all those elements who have been inciting communal conflicts and take up appropriate action against them, AMUCO said.
If any individual or group is openly indulging in activities which hurt the sentiment of other communities, the State must award exemplary punishment to such elements so that it serves as a deterrent, it said.
AMUCO said that any communal violence can prove to be a serious blow to the integrity of Manipur which was built up over a course of several centuries.
There is no harm for community-based organisations to work for the welfare of their communities but if their activities infringe upon the interest of other communities and challenge the integrity of Manipur, AMUCO would never accept it but fight it with a firm determination, it said.
Concerned villagers or communities have every right to their support or objection to any activity of the Government but they should never speak ill or provoke other communities in the course of protesting against the Govt, AMUCO said.
Some groups with vested interests have been polarising different communities in the State.
This is against AMUCO's objective of 'peaceful co-existence, collective struggle and collective development', it asserted.
