No land ownership for migrants: BJP

Manipur State Unit BJP has demanded incorporation of a provision in the proposed legislation to deny land ownership to the migrants from outside in Manipur.
This was stated by the State Unit BJP President Thounaojam Chaoba while talking to reporters in the party office on Sunday.
An ordinance should first be promulgated in Manipur ahead of finalising the Draft Bill.
Chaoba said that this will ease the efforts for further action on the bill.
He also said that permits should be issued to the migrants who are seeking entry into Manipur.
The BJP leader further pointed out that there was a permit system in Manipur prior to the abolition of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 on November 18, 1950.He also contended that the Constitution of India empowers the State to make laws/regulations in matters of public order and land.
This is why the party is recommending to the Government to make and implement a comprehensive Regulation, said Chaoba.
The entry into Manipur by non-residents should be regulated and transfer of land from residents of Manipur to non-resident persons should be done, if necessary, by adapting good practices from other States to suit the local requirements, he stressed.
It may be recalled that the Manipur unit BJP had taken a giant step of constituting a committee to draft a relevant Bill.
It may be mentioned that the Manipur Legislative Assembly in a Special Session held on July 15 resolved to withdraw the Manipur Regulation of Tenants and Migrants Workers Bill (MRT&MW) Bill 2015 in order to make way for a more comprehensive legislation in consonance with the people's aspirations.
Subsequently, the State Government decided to constitute a 5-member Commitee with Minister in charge of Law & Legislative Affairs as the Chairman, for preparation and submission of a news draft for protection of the indigenous people of Manipur within one month.
On July 17, BJP Manipur Pradesh had stated that the All-Political Party meetings called by the State Government to discuss the ILPS issue was not a solution to the burning issue and hence the party decided to skip the meeting.
State BJP President Chaoba stated that the forming All-Political Party Committee on Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) is a mere eye-wash to calm down the public.
Manipur People's Party (MPP) also did not attend the All-political Party meeting at the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
JCILPS Student Wing to snoop 'mocking statements' on Facebook .
Student Wing of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) on Sunday expressed unhappiness over "mocking statements" by some individuals which have been uploaded on the social networking site Facebook to undermine the ILPS movement.
In a statement, JCILPS Student Wing's media coordinator Bijondo Yumkhaibam said it will investigate the matter by sending a strong message to those "unethical people" to stop such nonsensical comments in future.
The student wing also condemned representatives of some political parties for allegedly attempting to politicize the ILP issue and warned that if they keep on indulging in such activities, the Student Wing is willing to edify them.
The student community will not take part in any events of the Government and the people are also urged not to cooperate with the Government in its activities until the ILP System is implemented in Manipur and all police personnel responsible for the death of student Sapam Robinhood, the Student are punished, said JCILPS Student Wing.
It appealed the people to carry on the agitation under the banner of JCILPS and announced that the Student Wing is all prepared to launch different fresh modes of protests to achieve the objective.
