Imphal, May 23 2024:
Few days after fashion designer Kumarjit Laishram, who was 'punished' for involvement in a sex racket, named four high profile personalities for their indulgence in unethical activities, opposition Congress party on Wednesday demanded the BJP-led government in the state to launch probe into the matter and take necessary measures.
The banned Koireng-led UNLF 'punished' Kumarjit by pumping a bullet on his leg in an Imphal West district area for his role in the sex racket.
Admitting that he supplied women to some high-profile people, Kumarjit, who also runs a spa and a beauty salon close to his Takyel Khongbal Maning Leikai residence in Imphal West district, named two ministers, a legislator and an IAS officer as his clients.
He is presently undergoing treatment at the centre-run RIMS Hospital here.
Leaders of the Mahila, youth, NSUI and Seva Dal of the 'Grand Old Party' submitted memorandum to the Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Chief Minister N Biren and Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata, demanding initiation of investigation 'at the highest level' into the alleged sex scandal involving the VIPs and take actions accordingly.
In the memorandum, leaders of the Congress' frontal organisations said that news reports of the sex racket published in the media "seems to be one of the very serious issues regarding immorality among the elected members as well as other top ranking bureaucrat officers".
It added that none of the VIPs named by Kumarjit has 'made any clarification from their personal side as to whether they were really involved or not in the said sex scandal' .
"In such a situation, in the interest of the public, particularly the women, we have decided to approach the state government for initiating an enquiry to the satisfaction of the public as the authority is still silent over the issue," read the memo.
"Therefore, we hereby request your good office to kindly constitute an enquiry commission at the highest level so as to find out if any of the named VIPs are involved.
Further, we also request your good self to take up appropriate action(s) as per the findings of the enquiry in the interest of the public in general and women in particular," the frontal leaders said.
