Imphal, June 06, 2013:
Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has strongly condemned the State government's stance to thwart the awareness programmes on Inner Line Permit System which are being conducted by the Students' Wing of JCILPS at various schools and colleges.
A statement issued by JCILPS said that it is a democratic right for every person to know things of their choice.
ILPS is one such important issue which all people including students of the State must know.
The State government's attitude towards organizing such awareness programmes is unbecoming of a democratic institution.
The government is trying to gag the indigenous people who are voicing for their rights, it asserted.
The Inner Line Permit System is for the betterment and welfare of indigenous people.
As a global phenomenon, the rich and powerful people are oppressing the poor masses to get dominance in all affairs.
The ILPS is a tool to restrain the non-locals from getting hold on the whole State.
The system would restrict the non-locals on employment in state departments and also in possession of land and other properties in the State, the statement mentioned.
It further said that the ILPS would ensure peaceful coexistence of all communities by ensuring ample opportunities to the indigenous people in terms of education, employment and economic development.
JCILPS also cautioned that the non-locals themselves should be responsible for any unwanted consequence if they dare to defy the restrictions imposed by the Joint Committee.
