Hueiyen Lanpao Daily bags 3 out of 8 State Journalist Awards 2014

Imphal, November 16 2014 : On the occasion of National Press Day, the State Journalist Awards given annually by Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) were presented to eight journalists including three from Hueiyen Lanpao during a solemn function at Manipur Press Club here today.

Notably, three staff reporters of Hueiyen Lanpao had already received State Journalist Awards in different categories last year.

The three staff reporters who were honored with the award for this year are Bijoy Laishram (Rural Reporting); Puyam Rameshwar (Parliamentary Reporting) and Maisnam Karnajit (Science & Technology) .

Bijoy Laishram who hails from Thongju Pechu Lampak, Imphal East is the eighth of the nine siblings of (L) L Tampha and (L) L Tombi Leima.

He had received Oja Indramani Memorial Journalist Award in 1996 and Seram Mangi Singh Memorial Award in 2013 .

Puyam Rameshwar is the eldest son of P Chandra and P (o) Memma of Khongman Mayai Leikai, Imphal East.

Maisnam Karnajit who hails from Haobam Marak Ngangom Leikai is the youngest amongst four siblings of M Ibotombi and M (o) Ramni.

Mention may be made that Maisnam Karnajit had already received three awards in recognition of his influential reporting on different fields.

The awards are State Journalist Award (Health & Hygiene) in 2013; Best Male Journalist Award given by Kangleipakki Meira in 2013 and RK Sanatombi Singh Memorial Award in 2014 .

The other five journalists who were honored with the State Journalist Award are Ashiho Hungyo (Valley Rose), editor of Aja daily newspaper published in Tangkhul dialect for the best editorial on Communal Harmony & National Integration; Kshetri Meghajit, sub-editor of Naharolgi Thoudang (Health & Hygiene); RK Manisana, sports journalist of Poknapham (Best Journalist Award); Sapam Aruna, staff reporter of Sangai Express (Women & Child Reporting) and Longjam Arishrona, staff reporter of The People's Chronicle (Art & Culture Reporting) .

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Chief Minister O Ibobi stated that the observance of National Press Day is an important day from the perspective of journalism in the country given the paramount role of media in a democratic country.

Noting that the role of media in maintenance of transparency in governance of the State and the country is pivotal, the CM acknowledged the role of journalists in dissemination of daily information to the public against all odds.

The government will extend all possible help to the State journalists who are working day and night for the sake of news meant to be disseminated to the public, Ibobi pledged.

Conceding that the Central Government passed the Right to Information Act through which people can seek information on any matter from government departments, the CM maintained that the government would try to fill up the vacant posts of Commissioners of RTI in the State at the earliest possible.

Today's function was also attended by Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, president of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) as president; Parliamentary Secretary K Meghachandra and W Rajen, Director of DIPR as guests of honor.

As part of the programme, a workshop was also organized.
