Imphal, November 16 2014 : Volunteers of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) today undertook verification drives of non-local people at Hatta Golapati and Nagamapal Singjubung.

The verification drive at Pheija Junior High School, Hatta was jointly carried out by JCILPS and Minuthong, Hatta, Golapati Development Council.

Hatta Golapati JCILPS Non-Manipuri Survey Committee co-convenor Zakir Hussain said that the verification drive is aimed at identifying non-local people who came to Manipur in clandestine manners.

Highlighting the importance of identifying all non-local people who are living in the State, Zakir Hussain said that Meitei Pangals settled in Manipur since the days of monarchy have their surnames but Muslims who migrated into Manipur recently have no (Manipuri) surnames.

As such, the Muslims immigrants cannot claim themselves to be Meitei Pangals.

In case the incessant influx of non-local people is not checked urgently, Manipur would be completely dominated by immigrants after some years, Zakir Hussain said.

Non-locals being verified

Hatta Golapati JCILPS Non-Manipuri Survey Committee convenor Haji Arafat questioned whether any one who speaks Manipuri should be called indigenous people of the land.

He appealed to all landlords/house owners to cooperate in the verification drive of their tenants so as to identify Muslim immigrants who have no (Manipuri) surnames.

A similar verification drive was also carried out at Nagamapal Singjubung Leirak together with the local club.

In the course of the drive, many non-local people who do not possess valid identification documents and who have purchased land in the State were detected.

Some other non-local people produced voter slips used in casting votes as their identification documents.

The voter slips were of Thangmeiband A/C.Khwai Nagamapal Singjubung Leirak JCILPS Survey Works co-convenor Tomba Chanambam sought people's cooperation in the ongoing drive of JCILPS to identify non-local people who do not have valid identification documents.

He also urged the State Government to fulfil the people's common demand for enforcement of ILPS in the State.

He also called upon all clubs and meira paibi groups of each and every locality to carry out similar verification drive at their respective localities.

JCILPS co-convenor VK Moirangcha appealed to the State Government to identify all non-local people who have bought land and/or enlisted themselves in the voter lists.

He further advised the political leaders of the State to act in line with the pulse of the public.
