Kangpokpi, March 03 2015 :
Ranjit Meetei of Thoubal who was reportedly abducted by miscreants from Chawangkining village, IT Road on Feb 26 has been released today.
Ranjit, said to be a worker of special contractor Lunsat Kipgen, was reportedly kidnapped on Feb 26 around 9.30 pm from Chawangkining village.
Earlier in the day, the Kuki National Front (KNF) and Sadar Hills based Kuki civil bodies had strongly condemned the reported kidnapping while urging the group/individual concerned to release him unconditionally at the earliest.
A statement issued by the information and publicity secretary of KNF, LH Stephen urged the group concerned to immediately stop mentally harassing the contractor if they want peace.
If the abductors are Kuki underground and sons of the soil, they should stop tarnishing the image of the armed movement, it said.
Holding the formation of smaller splinter UG groups responsible for all kidnapping and extortions, the KNF statement said that these splinter groups have no other way to procure arms and ammunition or woo cadres to join except kidnap for ransom.
In the meantime, Sadar Hills Kuki civil bodies including Kuki Inpi, Gunhom Lhang, Kuki Students' Organization and Kuki Women Union have condemned the kidnapping of Sanasam Ranjit Singh and appealed for safe and unconditional release.
