Now a six winged drone comes from a young technocrat

Imphal, December 14 2023: After robots and an electric skateboard, an aspiring technocrat Thiyam Nandalal has assembled a six wing drone which can carry an object as heavy as one kilogram.

Nandalal (23), a fifth semester student of Manipur College, is the eldest son of Th Kishorechand and Th (ongbi) Chaobi Devi of Nambol Balaram Maning Leikai.

He has five siblings, one brother and four sisters.

He developed a deep passion for technology after seeing the work of different scientists through various sources which subsequently inspired him to assemble his first robot named John-17 in 2017 .

There is no going back from experimenting on other works of technology since then for the young and aspiring technocrat and he so far has made an electric skateboard, a robot which can detect bombs before laying his hand on drone technology.

Speaking to The Sangai Express, Nandalal said that the drone he assembled can travel a long distance and carry an object as heavy as one kilogram.

He said that the drone can be used in delivering medicines at the time of emergency.

Saying that he has completed 50 per cent of the ground station work, Nandalal continued that he needs about Rs 3,00,000 to 5,00,000 to complete the whole project.

A tower with strong signal will also be installed at the ground station, he added.

Continuing that he received Rs one lakh cash assistance from one Shanti of Thangmeiband for assembling the drone, Nandalal maintained that the assembly of the drone is completed and it can take flight now.

Nandalal further said that he is planning to hold a 10-day exhibition shortly and showcase all the electronic items he had assembled so far to the fellow students.

Saying that he assembled John-17 (a robot) when he was a student at Johnstone Higher Secondary School in 2017 and took part in the science, mathematics and environment exhibition organised by the Government in the same year, he added that John-17 can remain active for about an hour with the battery fully charged.

Nandalal also said that he competed in different National and State level science competitions with his robot and won first prize in many of them.

Maintaining that John-17 can carry things, water plants with semi automatic remote control commands, Nandalal stated that he also assembled a robot which can detect a bomb in 2019 and a drone by cutting fish boxes in the shape of an aeroplane and installing a mortar and electronic items in it.

The relevant department, however, didn't give the permission to utilise the robot in detecting a bomb.

The drone he made from fish boxes, on the other hand, can travel five to 10 kilometres, he added.

Saying that he skipped college for some time after spending the money which his parents gave him for admission in buying electronic items, Nandalal continued that he returned to class after his parents gave him the admission money again.

He went on to state that he assembled an electric skateboard to go to college to save the travel cost.

I used the skateboard for about a year, he added.

Saying that he didn't get much benefit from the money he received (Rs one lakh) from the Government under the Start-up scheme as he had to pay interest despite the subsidy given, Nandalal continued that he didn't get any further assistance from the scheme again.

Nandalal further said that he has formed a society called Zero and Infinity Innovation and Problem Solving along with Laishram Pakhangsana who studied engineering at Anna University, Chennai.
