Rs 2000, Rs 100 currency notes reach Imphal

Imphal, November 11 2016:
A reliable source has informed The Sangai Express that Rs 2000 notes amounting to 100 crore and Rs 100 notes amounting to Rs 7 crore were flown to Imphal in a special flight today around 4 pm.
The source also confirmed that with the arrival of the newly introduced notes in the State, banks will soon have facilities to disperse the new currency notes to the public.
Even though the new currency notes have reached the State capital today, process to disseminate cash from banks to ATMs will take a certain period of time.
Therefore, it might take some more time to ease the hardships of the people.
It may be mentioned that after Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared to demonetise existing Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes on November 8, people across the State can be seen lining up in front of banks either to deposit or exchange the currency notes.

In a study conducted by The Sangai Express, it was learnt that a medium sized Nationalized bank in the State capital which had an average deposit of about Rs 15 lakh to 20 lakh on an average per day had a deposit of Rs 1.1 crore on November 10 and Rs 1.5 crore today.
The bank which had visitors of about 60 persons in a day increased to 400 persons per day in the last two days.
The study indicates that other main branches of different banks located in Imphal city will have higher number of cash deposits between November 9 and November 11 .
Speaking to The Sangai Express, one customer at SBI, MG Avenue said he had been standing in the queue for about three hours just to exchange his old Rs 500 notes.
When asked about his veiw on the new initiative of the Government of India, he said that the move will help curb counterfeit notes.
However, it would not help much in countering the black money issue as there will always be a way to escape the penalty.
Even though it is a very bold move, it has created a lot of inconveniences, he added.
