Teachers protest : Even as the whole country celebrated Teachers' Day today, lecturers working in higher secondary schools under the Government of Manipur who have been deprived of their pay for the last couple of months have questioned the relevance of the celebration.
In a statement made available to the press, All Manipur Government Higher Secondary Lecturers Welfare Association said that even though honouring of teachers with awards in recognition of their service on the occasion is appreciable, depriving the monthly salary of thousands of dedicated teachers on the pretext of preparing MGEL has brought down the moral of the teachers.
In such a situation, there is no meaning and relevance of celebrating Teachers' Day in Manipur.
The Association was also decried the Government for its alleged exploitation of teachers who were appointment through proper channel as a consequence of the failure to come up with the MGEL in time.
