Prime Minister to inaugurate Capitol Project in November

Imphal, October 14 2011: The Capitol Project being constructed at a total cost of Rs 300 crore under the sponsorship of the Centre will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh in the last part of November this year.

According to official source, the capitol project comprising the Manipur Legislative Assembly, Civil Secretariat and High Court Complex is nearing completion with most of the construction nearing completion.

The construction of the Assembly Hall is almost complete by now and the chairs to be installed inside the hall for the MLAs have also arrived.

The government is speeding up the progress by working day and night to inaugurate it before the last assembly session of the present government which is likely to be held in the first week of December.

Metalling of road in and around the Capitol project is being taken up with a sense of urgency and is being targeted to be completed by the end of October.

In order to ensure the timely completion of the construction work and finishing touches of the project, Works Minister K Ranjit himself is spending most of his time inside the complex monitoring the work.

Even though it is not certain, there is high possibility of the Prime Minister Manmohan declaring a separate High Court of Manipur on the day of the inauguration of the Capitol Project.

Meanwhile, the Assembly hall and High Court Complex are nearing their completions, the Civil Secretariat is still some time away from completion even though it may become ready for inauguration during the visit of the Prime Minister, the source maintained.

The state government is speeding the construction of City Convention Centre at Palace Compound in order to inaugurate the centre during the visit of the Prime Minister.

Moreover, the present government is speeding all its major construction and projects during November before the election code of conduct comes into effect which is likely to be happen in last part of December, the source added.
