Evacuation of 'displaced' Meiteis complete: State BJP

The State unit of BJP has said that evacuation of Manipuri Meiteis who have been taking shelter at two different relief camps in Assam after they fled from Mizoram has completed.
Addressing the media at Thambal Shanglen today, general secretary of BJP Manipur K Saratkumar said that altogether 79 Manipuri Meiteis who worked and studied in Mizoram were given refuge at Sonai and Lakhimpur of Assam after an ex-militant group in Mizoram, Peace Accord MNF Returnees' Association (PAMRA), asked every Meitei to leave the State.
They fled from Mizoram on July 22 and 23, he added.
Saying that evacuation of Manipuri Meiteis have been completed but some chose to stay behind, he said that those evacuated Meiteis have all reached their places safely.
He further said that the displaced Manipuri Meiteis were brought back to Imphal from relief camps in Assam in helicopter in two days (July 30 and 31) .
K Saratkumar thanked the Assam Government and Meiteis in Assam for providing shelter to the Meiteis who fled from Mizoram.
