Imphal, July 31 2023:
The Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) declared that party's permanent ban on transportation of betel leaves into Kangleipak will be applicable only to syndicates transporting betel leaves through Kuki-dominated areas by paying huge amount of money to Kuki militants and civil society groups.
According to a KCP statement issued by deputy secretary of information & public relations M Punsiba Meitei, the party decided to partially lift permanent ban in consideration of appeals by various stakeholders in the betel leave trade and also in the interest of small-time traders heavily depending on the supply of betel leaves.
The outfit declared that betel leave syndicates are free to transport betel leave consignments into Kangleipak as long as they do not pay money to Kuki militants and civil society groups threatening territorial integrity of Kangleipak.
The outfit also appealed to the public not to indulge in forfeiture or burning/destruction of betel leaf consignments being transported into Kangleipak without giving any amount of money to Kuki militants and civil society groups.
