Imphal, July 31 2023:
The additional columns of state security personnel sent into Moreh as reinforcement to the border town following fresh round arson and violence by Kuki mob on July 26 are still remaining stranded at Tengnoupal.
Amid the human blockade by Kuki women folk, an informed confided that the government is likely to rush in more forces in the area where Kuki women are blocking the highway so that the reinforcement teams despatched earlier can make their way to the border town to maintain law and order there.
Mention may be made that large number of Kuki women came out and burned several abandoned houses in Moreh on July 26.Assam Rifles tried to stop the arson activities only to get attacked by Kuki militants resulting in exchange of fire.
As the AR team found it hard to contain the situation, they allowed the state forces, who were confined at their posts, to come out and engage with the Kuki militants.
Following the incident, the government sent in additional security forces by helicopter the next day and state forces have started routine patrolling inside the border town under the command of Special Commando SP Krishnatombi and ASP (LO) Moreh O Sukumar.
Additional columns of state forces including personnel of 3rd, 5th and 6th IRB and 8th MR were sent by road to reinforce the state forces in Moreh.
However, they met strong opposition from a large number of Kuki women in Tengnoupal area, who are blocking the road round the clock to prevent the security forces from reaching the border town.
