Imphal, July 31 2023:
As many as 79 Meeteis from Mizoram were airlifted in helicopters from different relief camps located in Assam to Imphal in the last two days.
Out of the 79 individuals, 42 arrived in Imphal on Sunday and 37 on Monday and they were received by BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary K Saratkumar at Imphal airport.
Addressing a press meet at the party's Thambal Shanglen here on Monday, Saratkumar said that evacuation of Meeteis, who were staying in Mizoram for jobs and other purposes, is almost complete.
While some fled to Manipur via flights, many took shelter in neighbouring Assam, where they were received by Meetei CSOs of Assam and accommodated in relief centres in Cachar district.
Saratchandra expressed gratitude to Meetei CSOs in Assam for their initiative.
Some of the Meeteis, who fled Mizoram, told the media that the rent owners treated them well but they feared for their safety following the threat from PAMRA and other student bodies, and advised them to come back again when the situation improves.
