Philanthropist groups, individuals reach out to underprivileged

Thoubal, April 24 2020: Rice and other edible items were distributed to certain families in Thoubal district affected by HIV-AIDS, today.

The relief work was carried out under the aegis of District Administration and DC Thoubal with the assistance of volunteers of HIV Positive Network to help most deprived families, who are also victims of HIV-AIDS.

The distribution programme was attended by District AIDS Prevention Officer, Dr Rajen; District Health Society Thoubal's DPM, Ch Bashanta and District supervisor cum District Programme Manager of DAPCU, Th Openkumar Singh.

Volunteers of Positive Network also helped the team by delivering the relief items at the houses of the selected beneficiaries.

It may be noted that the district has more than 3000 persons living with HIV-AIDS.

In the meantime, COVID-19 Relief Committee, Kakching Khunou has also started distributing essential commodities to economically weaker households of the area.

Around 400 households sorted by local clubs, were assisted for the first time by the committee through the fund contributed by many philanthropists of the area.

The committee also aimed to continue the relief work and sought moral and financial supports from residents of Kakching Khunou.

Three social workers from Sugnu, Wangoo and Kakching Khunou have also distributed edibles to the residents under Sugnu AC under the aegis of BJP Sugnu Mandal today.

Youth Educational Club (YEC) Waikhong Laimanai,Youth Progressive Club (YPC) Waikhong Awang Leikai, Modern Youth Club (MYC) Waikhong Khunjao Leikai,Waikhong Lai Manai Phamlon (Khullakpa) also joined hands and distributed 15 kg rice each to around 470 households in Waikhong today.

District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Chandel under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority has also reached out to inmates of Pioneer Old Age Home, Khuninglung and Ujjwalla Home Chandel with edibles.

The DLSA Chandel team was led by its secretary Lamkholal Kipgen.

Meanwhile, the students, teaching staff and NSS volunteers of Yairipok Universal College (YUC) also came out to distribute face masks and eatables to market-goers who rushed to the Yairipok Keithel to purchase commodities during the curfew relaxation period.

The college team also made the public wash their hands thoroughly apart from handing out eatables to Police personnel, CHC staff and those working in nearby chemist shops.

Vegetable vendors, grocery stores, fish and meat vendors of Yairipok Keithel were allowed to open from 7 am to 1 pm today, reports our correspondent.

Secretary of YUC's governing body, Laishram Joykumar expressed that the voluntary and charitable work was done under the auspices of SP Thoubal District Dr S Ibomcha and around 1000 masks prepared by Home Science Department of the college were handed out to the public.

Strict security measures were also taken up during the relaxation period with the help of officials and police personnel, CDO teams from Yairipok and Andro Police Stations.
