International Yoga Day celebrated across Manipur with mass participation, promoting healthy ageing and wellness

The 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 was observed across Manipur with great enthusiasm and active participation from people of all sections, including government departments, educational institutions, health centres, security forces and local communities, highlighting the importance of yoga for healthy ageing, physical fitness and mental well-being.
Observed under the global theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing", the celebrations focused on promoting yoga as a holistic practice that strengthens the body, calms the mind and encourages a healthy lifestyle.
BISHNUPUR
In Bishnupur district, Radha Madhava Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya (RMASM), Nambol, marked the International Day of Yoga with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, nonteaching staff, yoga practitioners and members of the local community.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof Buddheswar Sarangi, Principal of the Mahavidyalaya, and coordinated by Asem Opendro Meitei, Coordinator, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), RMASM.
More than 100 participants performed the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) prescribed by the Ministry of AYUSH under the supervision of trained instructors.
Yoga demonstrations, meditation sessions and competitions showcasing flexibility, balance and knowledge of yoga were also conducted.
CHANDEL
In Chandel district, the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Field Office Chandel under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, organised a Special Outreach Programme at Chandropoto village.
The programme emphasized the role of yoga in promoting longevity, active living and overall wellness.
Local leaders including Marim Philipboy, Chief of Chandropoto Village; Th Ranbi, President of Phantu Youth Club; and Th Abunglen, Secretary of the club attended the event.
N Gitchandra Singh, President of Bharat Swabhiman Trust, Kakching District, participated as resource person and yoga instructor.
Field Publicity Assistant Mathew Sk Bengam highlighted the significance of the programme, while N Gitchandra Singh delivered a technical session on the benefits of yoga and conducted practical demonstrations of various asanas.
A quiz competition on yoga and health was also organized.
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Chandel, under the supervision of District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman DLSA Chandel, Binny Ngangom, also observed the day at the District Court Complex with participation from members of the Chandel Bar Association, security personnel and court officials.
PHERZAWL
In Pherzawl district, the District Administration organized a series of yoga programmes.
A central session was conducted by the Zonal Education Office, Pherzawl, with participation from education officials and staff.
Health institutions including Community Health Centre Parbung and Primary Health Centres at Senvon, Sibapurikhal and Patpuihmun conducted yoga demonstrations to promote preventive healthcare.
The Social Welfare Department (ICDS) also joined the observance, spreading awareness on the importance of yoga and wellness.
KAKCHING
Kakching district observed the day at Various locations with yoga sessions organized under different initiatives.
As part of Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah, programmes were conducted in coordination with Integrated Rehabilitation Centres for Addicts (IRCAs) by Kha Manipur Yoga and Nature Cure Association under the supervision of the District Social Welfare Office, Kakching.
Yoga sessions were held at several child care institutions including HFAO Thambal Children Home for Girls, BDS Children Home for Girls, Keirak, Morning Star Children Home for Boys, Keirak, Kulla & Ibelei Girls Children Home, Pallel, Ibeningthou Ningsing Shanglen Open Shelter for Girls, Keirak and HRRUO Open Shelter for Boys, Pallel.
Programmes were also held at Chonokom Ground, CHC Kakching, PHC Kakching Khunou and AAM Irengband.
Schools across the district participated under the aegis of Zonal Education Office, Kakching, while MY Bharat Kakching also organized yoga activities in collaboration with Kakching Khunou Police Outpost and PHC Kakching Khunou.
The Yoga session was also held at Kakching Chumnang Leikai organised by the Kakching District Yogasana Sports Association (KDYSA) and District Yoga Training & Research Association (DYTRA) with MLA of Kakching AC Mayanglambam Rameshwar attending the programme.
UKHRUL
In Ukhrul district, the District Health Society and Education Department jointly observed the day at the DRDA Conference Hall, Mini Secretariat Complex, Hamleikhong.
Yoga instructor HA Ninghorpem led the session and highlighted the health benefits of regular yoga practice.
More than 50 participants, including SSA District Coordinator Ukhrul Ringshan Shaiza Assistant Inspector Sunita Jajo, Robert Laishangthem, proprietor of Royal Gymnasium, ASHA workers and medical staff, took part in the programme.
CHURACHANDPUR
Churachandpur district also celebrated the day at the Panchayat Resource Centre, Mini Secretariat Complex, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar.
A trained yoga instructor conducted sessions comprising asanas, pranayama and meditation.
The Deputy Commissioner said yoga is not merely physical exercise but a comprehensive practice integrating body, mind and breathing techniques to improve overall well-being.
Government offices and educational institutions across the district participated in the observance.
ASSAM RIFLES
Assam Rifles observed International Yoga Day across various locations in Manipur as part of its 100-day yoga run-up programme aimed at promoting health, wellness and community harmony.
The celebrations witnessed participation of more than 1,200 personnel and civilians, including villagers, students, women, youth and local leaders, across valley areas, hill districts and forward locations along the IndoMyanmar border.
Mass yoga sessions were conducted at Malom, Keithalmanbi Garrison, Koirengei, IGAR (S) Headquarters Mantripukhri, Thoubal, Phundrei, Nungba, Ukhrul, Kakching, Pallel Garrison, Chandel and Tengnoupal and several forward locations.
Under the guidance of trained instructors, participants performed the Common Yoga Protocol involving asanas, pranayama, breathing exercises and meditation.
The sessions focused on improving flexibility, strength, endurance, mental focus and emotional resilience.
For security personnel deployed in challenging terrains, yoga was highlighted as an important tool for stress management, discipline and maintaining operational readiness.
The widespread observance of International Yoga Day across Manipur reflected the growing recognition of yoga as a means to promote healthy living, peace, fitness and social harmony.
