JD (U) releases its election manifesto
Pledges adequate power supply and drinking water

The Janata Dal (United) has released its election manifesto in connection with the ensuing 10th Manipur State Legislative Assembly scheduled on January 28, which among other things talks of ensuring adequate power supply and safe drinking water to the people of the state.
The election manifesto which contains altogether 17 commitments which the party promises to fulfill in the next five years was released by its National General Secretary and North East in-charge, Arun Kumar Srivastava and State Unit President N Tombi at the Party's office at Paona Bazaar today.
Stating that the power crisis in a state where Loktak Hydro Electric Project is commissioned is nothing but a clear sign of utterly weak government, the election manifesto promises that power supply of the state's due share will be given.
The party will also find an alternative source of power.
The manifesto also promises to ensure adequate supply of drinking water.
Understanding that the key to all round development of a state is improved connectivity, the JD(U) has pledged to introduce rope ways and helicopter services to the remote hill stations from the capital city of Imphal apart from improving the road network of the state.
Maintaining that the lack of employment opportunity has driven the state into poverty, the JD(U) further promised to make Manipur a poverty free state with pragmatic poverty alleviation programme.
On the economic sphere, the manifesto pointed out that historically, Manipur used to be self sufficient economy for centuries and in modern times it has been reduced to a "parasite economy".
With its own natural resources, the party will not only make Manipur a self sufficient state but also a key market player.
The party is also set on framing a new industrial policy with special emphasis on Agro, Textiles and Forest based industries.
It also pledged to root out corruption in high offices and stop nepotism.
The manifesto also talks of improving health care services with the establishment of Super specialty hospitals and installation of modern equipments in all the primary health centres to arrest the outflow of medical tourist.
Considering the tourism industry as pregnant with potential, the party promises to develop the identified tourist spots of Manipur and make them Global Tourist Destinations.
Among other promises include establishment of a Sports University with ultra modern facilities, under a new sports policy; redress the plight of the artist of the state; setting up Trauma Counselling cum Life Skill Centres in all the districts; proper implementation of ICPS and opening of Girls Shelter Homes and Girl children homes; implementation of Manipur Public Libraries Act,1988; ending political conflicts in the state through meaningful dialogues and giving special attention to agriculture, Horticulture and Pisciculture.
