Imphal, July 21 2016:
Police today rushed a minor girl student of TG Higher Secondary School, who has been staging an indefinite hunger strike with three other students at Singjamei Thongkhong, to the hospital after she collapsed at her agitation venue.
It may be mentioned that the students have been staging hunger strike since 7 pm of July 19 demanding implementation of ILPS in the State and removal of wanted tag from former JCILPS convenor Khomdram Ratan.
Meanwhile, students of Johnstone Higher Secondary School and Churachand Higher Secondary School showed solidarity to the cause of the four students by staging a sit-in-protest at Singjamei Thongkhong today.
Information culled from the agitation venue said that a team of Singjamei police station immediately rushed the girl to a nearby hospital after she collapsed at around 10 am.
A student protester said that the Government cannot divert the people's movement for protection of indigenous people by announcing Ratan as a wanted man.
Such moves would only aggravate the situation, he said and added that the Government must be held responsible for any eventuality arising out of this insensible step.
He observed that the State Government must think over why the students had come to the street instead of concentrating on their studies and career.
The student protester said that they are compelled to initiate different modes of agitation as the Government has hurt their sentiment with its indifferent attitude.
He said that the State Government must not forget that they had violated the right to life of its own people and the right to education of the students.
Urging the Government to pass a new Bill during the upcoming State Assembly session after bringing a consensus among the people of different communities, he said that they would not remain silent until ILPS is implemented in the State and the wanted tag is removed from Ratan.
Womenfolk of different localities also joined the students in staging the protest at Singjamei.
