NWUC inspects blast site

Chandel, January 18 2015: Following the report of recent attack at 20 Assam Rifles post at Machi, a team of mediapersons and Naga Women Union, Chandel (NWUC) led by its president visited Machi village, Chandel district today, reports our correspondent.

The team of Naga Women Union, Chandel was accompanied by Dominic Shongshir, president Moyon Tribe besides Ng Thomani vice- president of NWUC and Ps Sona, Information Secretary, NWUC among others.

After visiting and interacting with the Assam Rifles post at Machi village, the visiting team was informed that there the the Assam Rifles post of Machi did not come under attack in the night of January 14 last as published in some local dailies.

However,on that day there was an incident at Machi Lamkhai along Tengnoupal-Shangshak road in between Simang village and Samukom village where militant cadres attacked and injured some Assam Rifles personnel after triggering IEDs.

Later on, the team went to the spot where the incident occurred and on reaching the spot the Assam Rifles personnel who were patrolling the area told the visiting team that some suspected militants attacked them at around 10 pm in the evening and the Assam Rifles personnel also immediately returned several rounds of fire towards the militants.

The Assam Rifles personnel also maintained that the militants might have sustained heavy casualties after the exchange of gunfire and they added that some articles used by the militants including 5 sleeping beds were recovered from the site.

The Assam Rifles personnel also showed the team and media persons all the six diffferent sites where the IED's were triggered off and the spot where the militants took position during the attack.

Speaking to the media persons, Naga Women Union, Chandel's president, Bliss strongly condemn the responsible group for planting and triggering IEDs alongside the road where villagers of the areas travel throughout day and night.

While appreciating the Assam Rifles personnel for restraining and not torturing villagers, the president appealed to the group concerned not to repeat such incident and disturb peace and tranquility of the district in the future.
