Imphal, November 11 2015:
The three Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 last aimed to protect the indigenous people of the State do not harm any interest of hill tribes, said Khurai A/C MLA Dr Ng Bijoy and appealed all, who are against the Bills, to minutely discuss the issue.
The MLA was speaking at the 283rd anniversary of Puya Meithaba observed by Puya Mei Thakhibagi Apunba Ningsing Lup (PUMANIL) at Leimayon Arts Centre of Singjamei Chinga Makha.
Attending the observation as Chief Guest, MLA Ng Bijoy said that Manipur is a State where many different communities have been living together since time immemorial.
The total population of both hills and valley cannot even constitute one percent of India's total population.
The State Assembly passed the three Bills only to protect these indigenous communities and save the future generations.
Few sections of people are alleging that the Bills violate the rights of hill tribes which is not true at all.
"The Bills consists nothing which can harm any interest of hill people," said Bijoy and appealed all to think over and minutely discuss before taking up any issues.
On the Naga Peace Accord, Bijoy said that Government of India and NSCN (IM) signed the framework agreement recently.
To discuss the matter, civil society organisations of the State and all stakeholders need to sit together and deliberate on the history of Manipur, added Bijoy.
The function was attended by PUMANIL President Lainingba Mangi as President while ACOAM Lup Kangleipak President Ksh Somorendro, CLK Chief Advisor A Langdon Leima, UCM President Elangbam Johnson, IPSA President Sapamcha Jadumani, AMUCO President Dr Y Mani Khuman, CCSK President Arjun Telheiba, UCM consultative member H Ibotombi Khuman and SEACO Working President A Achoubi Khuman being the Guests of Honour.
