Imphal, November 28 2014 :
Employees of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) have cautioned that they would befittingly object if the Government forcibly shifts IMC office to Lamphel Supermarket.
Imphal Municipal Employees Union Vice-President Ph Chaoba said that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi had verbally directed the IMC Chairperson and Councillors in a meeting held yesterday to shift the office to Lamphel Supermarket as the Government intends to develop the current 98-year-old building, built during British reign, as a tourist spot.
Saying that IMC employees would object the said Government move befittingly, the Vice-President said that the Government has been pursuing a plan to take away the properties of IMC one after another.
He said that the area where Hotel Manipur was earlier located, Khuman Lampak ISBT complex and Indira Park belonged to IMC.
Saying that all these lands have been taken away one after another, Chaoba maintained that IMC staff would strongly oppose acquisition of their office in the name of developing it as a tourist spot.
Maintaining that it would not be convenient for IMC staff to come to Imphal market from Lamphel Supermarket, Ph Chaoba said that they would take a resolution to condemn the Government move in consultation with the Chairperson at the earliest.
