Responsibility of press is very big, says AMWJU President

Wankhemba Samjai, President, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMJU) launched a local newspaper at DRDA Conference Hall, Senapati today in the presence of A John, Chairman, Senapati and Karong Area Town Committee, President Naga People's Organization (NPO), President, Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA), President, Senapati District Olympic Association, President, Poumai Naga Tsii Duumai Me, Editor, Hills Hornbill Express, hosts of journalists and public leaders.
The paper is edited and published by John Basho Pou under the motto, "Forward with the People".
L D Samuel gave a brief opening remark while John Basho Pou, editor, THT spoke on the relevance and importance of the media as a modifying agent in the society.
Speaking in the occasion Wangkhemba Samjai, president, AMWJU and chief guest of the event noted that Imphal has hosts of correspondent for national papers and news channels whereas in hills the presence of the press is negligible as such launching a newspaper is a step forward.
Samjai passionately shared that the AMWJU is making 'a contingent plan' to penetrate in interior parts of the State to report the plight of the rural people in the form of investigative reporting.
He lauded the duo newspapers (Hills Hornbill Express and The Herald Today) for their bold step to serve the people and advised to perform duty well.
A John, chairman, Town Committee during his speech, appealed the media not to sensationalize any issue and avoid creating any sort of confusion.
Reverend Father Seisou John, Parish Priest, St John Bosco Parish pronounced the invocation while Pr A S Graceson Marao, President, SKABU delivered the benediction.
The launching ceremony was followed by a lunch for all the participants at Iceberg located at TNK Shopping Complex, Senapati, an upcoming restaurant in town with unique indigenous designs.
