Literary platforms spotlight youth and peace in Imphal

Imphal, June 21 2026:
Imphal witnessed two key literary events today aimed at nurturing youth expression and social reflection.
At Meitei Leikol, Langjing, "Voices of Youth- Volume II", the fifth book of Yai Publication, was launched.
Dr Naorem Thoinu, founder of Yai Publications, presided, while Dr Reena Nongmaithem, Field Publicity Officer, CBC, was chief guest.
AMSU president Bruce Pebam and DESAM president Romesh Oinam were guests of honour.
Dr Jayalakshmi Phurailatpam, Associate Professor, Department of English and Cultural Studies, Manipur University, introduced the book.
Speakers included Dr Indramani Keithellakpam, DMU; Dr Bhabananda Takhellambam, Principal, MB College; ex-COCOMI convenor Athouba Khuraijam; journalist Naorem Mohen; and DMCC secretary Bobo Naorem.
Dr Reena spoke on gender roles, while others urged writers to document society, counter false narratives, and embrace discipline.
Bruce Pebam discussed AI's impact on creativity, stressing literature must reflect society.
Dr Thoinu pledged Yai Publication will continue grooming young writers.
Separately, Writers' Union, Imphal released "Naitom Hingningle" by Mustakim Chirai and "Khuga Turelgee Hiranbi" by Usman Gani Basei, adapted from a radio drama, at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul.
Union president Ajrun Kabir and MU Assistant Professor N Sanatomba Singh were presidium members.
Chirai said his book seeks to bridge divides and restore peace amid unrest.
Ex-Sahitya Akademi Convener N Kirankumar Singh reviewed "Naitom Hingningle", while former Imphal College Principal Prof Moirangthem Priyobrata spoke on "Khuga Turelgee Hiranbi".
Both events underscored literature's role in guiding youth, fostering dialogue, and preserving public memory.
