Purple Fest 2026 celebrates inclusion and talent of PwDs at Ningthoukhong

The Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE), Imphal, in association with Juvenile Justice Board, Takyel, organised a one-day Purple Festival 2026 at Ningthoukhong Higher Secondary School on Saturday.
The festival was organised with the objective of promoting inclusivity, showcasing the talents of persons with disabilities and encouraging the creation of a barrier-free and equitable society.
The event was attended by Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam as chief guest, Director of CRCSRE Imphal N Khoibi Singh as functional president, along with Director of Social Welfare Department Sheikh Abdul Hakim, Principal of Ningthoukhong Higher Secondary School T Pushparani Devi and State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Manipur, Waikhom Birahari as guests of honour.
The festival witnessed participation from persons with disabilities from across the State and featured a variety of activities including a sports meet, cultural programmes, entertainment events and an exhibition showcasing products made by persons with disabilities through 10 dedicated stalls.
As part of the programme, eight students with disabilities who successfully cleared the Class X and XII examinations conducted by BOSEM and COHSEM were felicitated with the Mayanglambam Arvinkumar Memorial Award 2026 .
The award, sponsored by former IED Coordinator Bishnupur Mayanglambam Sandhyarani, included cash prizes and certificates.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Govindas Konthoujam said that the world has witnessed significant changes in the race for development and stressed the need to ensure equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.
He said that if persons with disabilities are encouraged and allowed to contribute their abilities, society as a whole can progress further.
He urged everyone to work together with compassion and collective responsibility to build an inclusive society.
The festival concluded with a message of empowerment, dignity and recognition of the abilities and achievements of persons with disabilities.
