Imphal, November 18 2019: A public hearing on construction of new integrated terminal building and allied works for Imphal International Airport was held today at Changangei community hall.

The public hearing was presided by Imphal West DC Naorem Praveen.

Manipur Pollution Control Board Member Secretary T Mangi, Divisional Forest officer (Central) RK Amarjit, AAI North East Region General Manager (Engineering) Maya Devi J Nair, Imphal International Airport Officiating Director MN Ansari, AAI Imphal Airport DGM (Engg-E) SS Raju and ABC Technolabs India Pvt Ltd, Chennai representative Vinod Kumar Gautam attended the public hearing as convenors and members.

Speaking at the public hearing, AAI Chqs Joint GM (Engg-C) AK Bansal said that the existing terminal building of Imphal International Airport can handle only 500 passengers (250 arriving and 250 departing) at one time.

In view of the growing air traffic through Imphal International Airport and the projected future requirements, there is a need to construct a modernised terminal building and other facilities, Bansal said.

The new project comprises of a new modular, integrated terminal building which is centrally air-conditioned and also other modern facilities and amenities.

The new terminal building will be 28125 square metres big and it would have the capacity to handle 200 international passengers and 1000 domestic passengers at one time, Bansal said.

He said that the project has a component of building an apron which can house eight A321 aircrafts.

The apron which would be constructed on an area of 22560 sq metres (187X142) would be equipped with 7.5 m wide shoulders on three sides so that A321 aircrafts can operate.

There will also be two taxiways which would connect the apron to the runway apart from a parking lot which would have the capacity to house 1000 cars and 15 buses, AK Bansal said.

Moreover, there is another component for a new technical block and a control tower.

The control tower would be around 40 m high and it would cover around 4000 sq m, he continued.

Vinod Kumar Gautam said that the new project would provide modern and additional facilities to air passengers.

Apart from promoting tourism, trade and commerce, the new project would also foster economic development by way of giving jobs to local people, Vinod Kumar said.

Even though people present at the gathering were given time to share their ideas and opinions, none of them bothered to speak a single word.
