Capacity building program to prevent child sexual abuse, human trafficking organised

Senapati District Police in collaboration with Mukti project organized a capacity building program of law enforcement agencies and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) to prevent child sexual abuse and human trafficking today at Superintendent of Police (SP) Senapati office conference hall.
SP Senapati Anupam, IPS; Koshia Mao, Public Prosecutor, District & Session Court, Senapati and Wungreiso Shangh, Program Officer, Mukti Project graced the program as resource persons, said a press note by the office of SP Senapati.
Speaking at the occasion, Anupam, IPS expressed concern on the increasing human trafficking scenario which has emerged as the third most profitable illicit trade in global context next to arms smuggling and drug trafficking.
She enlightened the participants on how human trafficking is carried out globally by criminals and syndicates.
An estimated 1.2 million children are trafficked each year out of which 95 percent of victims experience physical or sexual violence during trafficking, she added.
In the context of Senapati district, the SP maintained that the law enforcement agencies need to know the modus operand! of human trafficking and take up stringent measures at the primary stage to stop human trafficking Koshia Mao deliberated on the POCSO Act and its legal provisions.
The hurdles of dealing with POCSO cases faced by the Investigating Officers (IOs) and the judiciary were discussed in length.
Constructive ideas and suggestions were exchanged between the panels and the police investigation officers.
Wungreisho Shangh presented detailed information on human trafficking focusing on how innocent people mostly children and women fell in the trap of human traffickers.
It may be noted that under Mukti Project, fruitful pro-grams/workshops such as capacity building programmes have been organized in many districts for law enforcement agencies and NGOs.
The program was attended by Additional SP thangkhochon Haokip, MPS, ASP (LO); ML Kaisungbou, MPS ASP(NH-2) and forty police investigation officers from various police stations of Senapati district, said the press note.
