Imphal, June 25 2010:
In connection with the stand off between the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union and the Lanheiba faction of the KCP (MC), over the publication of a press release, a meeting was held today at the Press Club, attended by Editors.
During the meeting, AMWJU observed that though the Lanheiba faction did express regret to AMWJU for the unruly words and threats issued earlier, it has been rendered meaningless for directly threatening the spokesperson of AMWJU, A Mobi, who is the Editor of Sanaleibak.
The words used were vulgar and full of venom, said AMWJU and quoted the outfit as stating 'Better have your last meal with your favourite dishes." As such it was decided not to entertain any statement issued by KCP (MC) Lanheiba.
Strongly condemning the threats issued to the spokesperson of AMWJU, the scribes body said that what the spokesperson says is on behalf of journalist fraternity in the State and nothing personal.
The spokesperson is not in any way empowered to take decisions on behalf of all the journalists in Manipur.
Any individual threats issued to Editors, reporters or any journalist will be taken as a collective threat to the journalists of the State, asserted AMWJU in a statement.
