Thoubal, April 01 2024:
Deputy Commissioner Thoubal Ahanthem Subhash Singh IAS has cautioned that legal actions will be taken up against doctors and medical staff concerned found troubling the patients with unnecessary expense and inconveniences.
The DC stated the above while speaking to media persons during a press meet held today at Thoubal District Hospital in connection with a social media post by a patient's father who came for treatment at the hospital.
In the post, the father of the patient who hails from Lamjao alleged that the doctor concerned made them incur an expense of Rs 1,500 for medical tests by sending them for the test outside the hospital.
In view of the above, the DC informed that the Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital Dr Ruhinikumar has probed the incident and the doctor concerned has been served a show cause notice for allegedly letting the patient take the test outside the hospital when such tests could have been done at the hospital free of cost.
The DC informed that appropriate actions will be taken against the doctor.
Highlighting that the Government has been focusing on enhancing the health sector, the DC said that 133 forms of medical tests are done for free in Thoubal District Hospital by opening Krshna Laboratory for the purpose.
Dr Ruhinikumar who was also present at the press meet said that the hospital authority has investigated the matter and the doctor involved has been served a show cause notice for the same and it will be forwarded to the relevant higher authorities.
The MS also maintained that a strict order is in place that the doctors and staff of the hospital should advise the patients to avail the benefits of the free tests available instead to ease the burden of unnecessary expense upon the patients.
