Awareness programme on newly passed three criminal laws held

A legal awareness programme on newly passed three laws which will be in effect from July 1 across the Nation was held today at Moirang Phairembam Leikai Mandop organised by Moirang Police Station.
Notably, the three new criminal laws namely Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita(BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) are set to replace the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act, respectively, with effect from July 1, 2024 .
Speaking about the awareness programme, SDPO Moirang Kangjam Santosh said that the newly passed criminal laws have been amended from the existing laws as per the current standard.
Stating that the three new laws will come into effect from July 1, he maintained that strict provisions of penalty are enlisted in these three new laws.
The SDPO informed that similar programmes will be conducted in other areas under the jurisdiction of SDPO Moirang to raise awareness among the masses.
He went on to state that the police officials of nearby police stations may be contacted if any individuals wish to have detailed knowledge about these new laws.
Furthermore, one can download the mobile application titled 'NCRB Sankalan of Criminal Laws' from the playstore to access more details, he added.
The SDPO also called for support and cooperation from the public to award befitting legal punishment to the culprits of any crime.
The awareness programme was graced by OC Moirang W Romi; Moirang Kendra Apunba Meira Paibi Ima Lup (MAMPIL) president K Padamo Devi; Kege Moirang Kendra Apunba lup (KEMKAL) president K Nipamacha and K Indrakumar of Village Volunteer Force Moirang Managing Committee as the presidium members.
Today's programme was also attended by representatives of 22 local clubs under Moirang Police Station, meira paibis and village volunteer
force among others.
