Solid waste treatment plant at Lamdeng upgraded

Imphal, May 29 2016: The Solid Waste Treatment Plant at Lamdeng constructed by the State Government with a project cost of Rs 4175 crore will be now upgraded from its present state of "Waste to Compost" to "Waste to Compost & Energy" purely on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model without any further investment from the State Government.

The State Government has finalized a private agency (Innovative Eco-Care Pvt Ltd, Ahmedabad) for the operation, upgradation and maintenance of the plant on PPP mode.

Imphal has been awarded the "Swachh City Award" for being the "Top Mover in the North East Region" for the year 2016.Imphal is placed at 15th Rank in the City Sanitation Ranking of 75 Indian Cities for the year, 2016 .

The MAHUD implemented various other Urban Development schemes like, construction of flyover, City Convention Centre, integrated housing and slum development programme, BSUP for Imphal City, three women markets, 100 bedded hospital, construction of shopping complex and improvement of Nambul and Naga River front.

Construction of Flyover : In order to ease the growing congestion, construction of a flyover from Uripok Gopalajee Leirak to Northern Gate of BT Park was started from 2002-03 at a total project cost of Rs 25 crore under financial assistance from the Ministry of Urban Development, Govt of India and the same was inaugurated on Nov 30, 2007. City Convention Centre: The project was sanctioned under 10% Lump-sum Scheme earmarked for NE Region by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India.

The centre constructed with a cost of Rs 80.46 crore was inaugurated on Dec 3, 2011.The City Convention Centre is the first of its kind in Manipur and has state of the art facilities for organizing grand events.

The centre has 687 seating capacity main auditorium, 80 seated conference hall, 72 seated audio visual room, art gallery, VIP conference hall, green rooms, rehearsal rooms and two multipurpose halls.

With sufficient parking areas and green lawns in and around the Centre will serve as an attractive destination for organizing seminars, meetings, functions, conferences.

Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP): The scheme is implemented in five towns of Thoubal, Jiribam, Moirang, Bishnupur and Kakching.

Under this scheme of Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP), the construction of 2,682 urban poor houses in Thoubal, Jiribam, Moirang, Kakching, Bishnupur Municipal Council areas has been completed.

Jiribam has been adjudged the Best city in implementation of IHSDP under JnNURM (for ULBs in small states and special category states/UT's) .

BSUP for Imphal City: The Scheme was started in the year, 2008-09.This project, under Sub-Mission-II of JnNURM envisages construction of 1250 houses for urban poor along with infrastructure and was approved at a total project cost of Rs 5123 lakh.

The project is implemented by Imphal Municipal Corporation and PDA, Manipur.

Constructions of 1249 units of houses have already been completed and target date of completion of all the housing projects is 2015-16.The Ministry of Housing & Urban Development Poverty Alleviation, Government of India has adjudged Imphal as the "Best BSUP city under Special Category States/Union Territories for the year, 2010-11" .

Three Women Markets (Khwairamband Bazar): Having felt the necessity to reconstruct the three old markets at Khwairamband Bazar viz, Purana Bazar (Market No 1), Luxmi Bazar (Market No 2) and New Market (Market No 3), the old structures were dismantled and new buildings were constructed for the three Women Markets with the financial assistance from the Government of India under the 10% Lump Sum Scheme earmarked for the North East Region including Sikkim.

Construction of Purana Bazar (Market No.1) was done by Public Works Department, Government of Manipur at a project cost of Rs 48.49 Crore while Market No 2 and 3 (Luxmi Market and New Market) were constructed by NBCC (National Building Construction Corporation Ltd) at project costs of Rs 20.21 crore and Rs 13.78 crore respectively.

The three market buildings were handed over to Imphal Municipal Corporation (erstwhile Council) on Aug 31, 2013.Steps have been taken up for repairing of the Markets damaged caused by the effects of the recent earthquakes.

100 Bedded Hospital at Thoubal: Thoubal, being a fast emerging town in the state, urgently needed a full-fledged Hospital.

Hence, a 100 Bedded Hospital was constructed at the total project cost of Rs 36.07 Crore and the same has been handed over to the public.

Construction of Shopping Complex: Having felt the need to reconstruct and enhance some markets to cope with the increasing urbanization, steps were taken up by the state government to construct markets at Thoubal, Moirang, Mayang Imphal and Sugnu.

Shopping Complex at Thoubal was constructed at a total project cost of Rs 49.11 Crore and the same has been handed over to the public after completion.

The Shopping Complex at Sugnu was constructed under financial assistance from the Central Government as a part of the 10% Lump Sum Scheme earmarked for North East Region including Sikkim.

The project was implemented by Public Works Department, Government of Manipur and the same was completed and inaugurated on 29-12-2014 .

Improvement of Nambul and Naga River Front: With an aim to prevent pollution of Nambul and Naga rivers, improvement of river front with a project cost of Rs 25.65 crore was taken up in the year 2009 -10.The project is being implemented by Planning and Development Authority, Manipur and Irrigation and Flood Control Department with financial assistance from the Ministry of Urban Development, Govt of India.

At present, more than 90% of the project has been completed.
