Meetei Mayek training programme kicks off

A Meetei Mayek training programme kicked off today organised by Ema SHG Banskandi under the aegis of Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasilon Apunba Lup (MEELAL), Assam.
The inaugural function of the training programme was graced by eminent members of MEELAL Assam namely Seram Herajit; I Binot Singha and Laishram Premananda as the presidium members.
Delivering the welcome address, I Binot Singha highlighted the importance of learning Meetei Mayek to promote this indigenous language.
He further expressed gratitude to the Assam Government for recognising Manipuri language as an associate official language in four districts of Assam namely Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi and Hojai and giving approval for introduction of Meetei Mayek in the educational institutions in the State.
It is a big achievement for Meetei Mayek enthusiasts who have been making sincere and dedicated efforts to promote the language, he said.
Speaking at the event, Seram Herajit called for concerted efforts from all for the development of Meetei Mayek from the grassroot level.
He maintained that all should work sincerely to learn Meetei Mayek.
Today's programme was also attended by Ema SHG president Premolata Devi and MYFA secretary general Tampakmayum Salaw Uddin among others.
It is worth noting that the Manipuris residing in Assam have been making significant contribution for the enhancement of Meetei Mayek since the past many years.
