Imphal, March 13 2013:
The sub-district hospital at border town Moreh in Chandel district is in a pitiable state.
The sub-district hospital was found with manpower and infrastructure inadequacies during an inspection drive carried out by a team of United Committee Manipur (UCM) members led by its advisers RK Ranendrajit and Ibotombi Khuman today.
Interacting with the visiting team accompanied by media persons, MO in-charge of the hospital, Dr Th Nandakishore said that only 49 staff out of the total sanctioned posts of 101 staff were posted at the hospital.
The 49 staff posted there included two MOs, one Dy MS, two dental surgeons, and a few paramedical staff and others.
Besides other outdated facilities, the windows at the Operation Theatre could not be closed due to laxity while construction.
As such, dust piled up in the OT room rendering the room unserviceable, Dr Nandakishore said adding there is no agenda to amend it.
The Labour Room has also not been in much use as there are no mattresses, bed sheets and medicines.
There is neither OPD counter nor police picket.
There is also no septic tank for the lavatory.
The hospital has been upgraded to a sub-district hospital since 2001-02 after providing some infrastructure under Border Area Development Programme.
The MO said that no facility has been provided to the hospital under National Rural Health Mission.
This apart, some of the doctors were utilised at other health centres though they draw their pay from the hospital.
There are also some doctors who never ever turned up at the hospital after their posting there, the MO said though he did not reveal the details of such doctors.
Even if so, the vacuum posts could be mended with contract staff under NRHM.
Significantly, the number of OPD patients is increasing, Dr Nandakishore said.
On the other side, the hospital has staff quarters, security personnel, medicated water supply and solar power plants provided by MANIREDA.
The UCM meanwhile appealed the State Government authority to provide updated facilities to the hospital.
The UCM team also included its General Secretary Joychandra Konthoujam and vice-president Chandramani Khumancha.
