Collective efforts stressed on deworming day

The National Deworming Day and Mop-Up Day was opened today at Ram Lai Paul Higher Secondary School with Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar as the chief guest.
The event was jointly organised by the State Health Mission, Manipur and Health & Family Welfare Department under the aegis of the National Health Mission.
Speaking on the occasion, Jayantakumar said that doctors, nurses, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, teachers and parents must work in their own capacities to keep worms away from children.
Parents must be aware of the harmful impacts of worms on children's health.
Health and Family Welfare Department alone cannot keep worms away from children.
That is why the department has been working together with Education Department, Social Welfare Department and other relevant departments.

Even private schools would be taken on board, Jayantakumar said.
Such collective efforts are crucial not only for deworming but also for vaccination.
He also appealed to all stakeholders including media to shoulder due responsibilities.
After declaring the National Deworming Day and Mop-Day opened, the Health and Family Welfare Minister gave Albendazole tablets to school students.
The National Deworming Day would be observed in the State on February 13 and Mop-Up Day on February 20.Health and Family Welfare Director Dr K Rajo, Social Welfare Director Jacintha Lazarus, Education (S) Director Th Kirankumar, Additional Director Dr H Ranjit and Family Welfare Additional Director Dr Salamat attended the function as president and guests of honour.
The National Deworming Day was introduced by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 2015 .
According to a report of the World Health Organisation (WHO), 220 million children in the age group of 1 to 14 years face risks of health problems caused by Soil Transmitted Helminth or parasitic worms.
