World Thrift Day observed

The Department of Commerce, Manipur University on Wednesday observed World Thrift Day 2024 to promote saving money and developing a sense of financial prudence.
Additionally, a 1-Day National Seminar on "Banking Reforms, Trends and Progress in India" was conducted.
The event was graced by Prof N Tejmani Singh, Head, Department of Commerce, MU; Mayanglambam Nimai Singh, Chief Branch Manager, SBI, MU Branch; Chongtham Dhruvatara Khaba, Proprietor, M/S Avian House Khonghampat and Prof A Rajmani Singh, Director, IQAC, MU as presidium members, said a release issued by Dr Ksh Ranjan Singh, Seminar Convenor.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayanglambam Nimai Singh expressed the need for inculcating the habit of saving and investment through organised sector banks in the State.
He mentioned a number of products of banks linked with the stock market which are very attractive avenues for investment.
Chongtham Dhruvatara said, "With small savings our financial needs in future can be easily fulfilled.
Saving is not easy but it is a sacrifice.
We must make such sacrifices".
Prof A Rajmani talked about the significance and origin of World Thrift Day and why in India it is being organised on October 30 instead of October 31 every year.
As a part of the function, ACA Newsletter was released and ACA Encouragement Awards were given to the toppers of Class XII Commerce Exam conducted by COHSEM for the year 2023 & 2024 along with the Gold Medalists of B.Com and M.Com.Exams under Manipur University for the year 2023 & 2024.The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Ksh Ranjan Singh, Seminar Convenor.
The seminar had three technical sessions and 39 papers including 8 from different States of the country were presented.
Prof E Bijoykumar Singh, former Dean, School of Social Sciences, MU and Prof Laishram Prabhakar Singh were the chairpersons of the technical sessions along with Dr Namram Amulkumar Singh and Dr Loitongbam Kirakumar Singh as rapporteurs.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and mementos to all the paper presenters.
