Imphal, December 01 2014 :
United NGOs Mission Manipur (UNM-M), WAD, CSD, NEDF, NLF and KYLWDA have strongly condemned the blast which killed an 11-year-old boy at Lilong on November 29 .
Speaking at a press conference, UNM-M secretary U Nobokishore said that it is questionable how a powerful IED could be planted at a place located between 40 Assam Rifles Post and Lilong police station.
Saying that the period for AFSPA imposition expires on November 30 every year in Manipur, Nobokishore expressed suspicion that the blast could have been an intentional plan to seek extension of the draconian Act.
Such plans are categorised as war crimes and those involved in the blast must be punished under humanitarian laws.
He also demanded that Assam Rifles must be withdrawn from the State.
WAD secretary Sobita Mangshatabam said that planting of deadly blasts to extend disturbed area status had happened in the past as well.
Questioning how a blast could occur at a place which is closely monitored by security forces round the clock, Sobita said that Intelligence Department must be disbanded if they are unable to avert such incidents.
NLF secretary L Pishak and KYLWDA secretary Sitara Begum also spoke at the press conference.
