7th Waree Leeba Festival kicks off

Imphal, April 27 2024:
The inaugural function of the 7th Waree Leeba Cheirao Festival 2024 and workshop cum production on "Waree Leeba Ahumphambi" was held today at Gouria Mandir, Lanka Pipol Pukhri No 1, Assam.
The event was organised by the Repertory of Waree Leeba, Brahmaputra Valley Branch in collaboration with the Repertory of Waree Leeba, Manipur.
The workshop cum production was conducted under the aegis of Chief Ministergi Artistesinggi Tengbang (CMAT), Directorate of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur.
The Waree Leeba Festival and Workshop was kicked off with the hoisting of a flag by Kshetrimayum Bishnu Singh, president, Repertory of Waree Leeba, Brahmaputra Valley Branch.
The inaugural function was attended by Lanka Pipol Pukhri, Pradhan, Thiyam Singgaba Singh and Repertory of Waree Leeba Manipur, director, Takhellambam Shyamkanhai Singh as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Shyamkanhai said that the 7th Waree Leeba Cheirao Festival was conducted with the aim to promote the narrative art of Waree Leeba to Meiteis who have settled beyond State borders.
He also announced that the Repertory will be organising the 1st North East Waree Leeba Festival in Imphal next year.
Altogether, 11 narrative (Waree Leeba) artistes including six artistes from Repertory of Waree Leeba, Brahmaputra Valley Branch; three from Barak Valley Branch and two from Manipur are participating in the festival.
Also, 11 narrative artists are taking part in the workshop.
