Centre must take note of the ambush: AMUCO

Imphal, December 15 2016: Ph Deban, president of AMUCO, has said that the State Government and the Union Home Minister should take serious note of today's unfortunate events where militants ambushed and killed three police personnel of an advance security force who were en-route to Tengnoupal for the district inauguration ceremony by the Chief Minister.

Speaking to media persons at AMUCO's office at Kwakeithel, Deban pointed out that 11 security personnel had been killed in an ambush by militants at Chandel district some time back and three police personnel were killed in today's ambush so it is high time the State Government and the Centre stop being silent spectators.

He said that it is crucial for the State and Central Governments to investigate and find out the culprits behind today's ambush and take up proper and immediate measures to guard against such attacks.

Deban argued that it was unreasonable for the Central Government to ignore or react casually to such a horrific incident in case of Manipur when it would have reacted in an instant if such kind of ambushes had occurred in any other parts of India.

"It is critical for the Prime Minister and the Home Minister to take note and respond to the matter within 24 hours", he said.

Alleging the Centre of turning a blind eye towards Manipur, he said that the Central Government would have taken thing seriously if it had cared for us.

He urged the UNC and its supporters to stop resorting to violence during their blockade adding that they should be liable to compensate for all the goods, property and vehicles they vandalised.

Deban said that the State and Central Government should take up meticulous operations to weed out the economic blockade supporters who are responsible for firing at the truck drivers.

"It is time for the Centre to see the light and bring a definite conclusion to the UNC issue once and for all", he said.

Also condemning yesterday's incident at Lilong Nungei where tensions between the two major communities of the area led to exchange of gunfire and burning down of some houses, Deban said that many Meiteis from the area had fled when a similar incident happened some time back and only a mutual agreement between the two communities prevented things from degrading further.

"AMUCO strongly condemns this kind of violence and urge the two communities to bring a peaceful solution to all issues and misunderstandings at the earliest", he added.
