Imphal, August 08: United Manipuri Association, Assam (UMAA) has expressed its solidarity with the brethrens at home demanding revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur in the wake of the mass revolt against extra-judicial killing of Tha-ngjam manorama by Assam Rifles personnel.

A meeting of the Association was today at its Jhalupara, Silchar office premises today and discussed the prevailing situation in Manipur and strongly condemned brutal killing of Thangjam Manorama by Assam Rifles personnel in their custody.

The meeting expressed solidarity with the ongoing mass movement for withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 from Manipur and resolved to mobilize Manipuri people living in Assam for putting pressure on the Government for withdrawal of the repressive Act according to the wishes of the people.

Lamlai Block Congress Committee, meanwhile, has resolved to submit a memorandum to Chief Minister and MPCC president for taking up necessary steps for revoking Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur at the earliest during its executive body meeting today.

The meeting also strongly condemned the action of the security personnel on the people who were launching court arrest movement at Lamlai Bazar yesterday.

Medical and sale Representatives' Association of Manipur (MSRAM) has , also come out strongly against use of force by security personnel on protestors who are demanding lifting of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur.

The Association further said that it would continue to provide required medicines for treating those people who suffered injuries in police action during the course of the ongoing movement.

Sports and Cultural Mass Communication, Sagolband Meino Leirak; RIMS Auto and Taxi Service Association, Lamphel.

Eagles Club, Churachandpur; United Meetei Mayek Academy, Imphal; Netaji memorial Club, Khurai Kongpal; and Social Development Club; Samurou while denouncing excesses being committed by security personnel on the people of Manipur in the name of counter insurgency have also announced their support and participation in the ongoing movement being launched by the 32 organizations for lifting AFSPA from Manipur.

These organizations, in separate press statements, also condemned use of force by State security personnel towards the protestors.

United Clubs Organization Patsoi Kendra' while strongly condemning the brutal killing of Thangjam Manorama and Saichang village pastor Jamkholet Khongsai by Assam Rifles personnel, has expressed its support to proposed public disobedience movement called by the 32 voluntary organizations.

Pishumthong Ningom Leirak Meira Paibi Women Welfare Association has strongly denounced the brutal assault of peaceful demonstrators by State Security personnel in between Kakwa PS and Singjamei PS on August 7.Meanwhile, Nupee Semgat Sagatpa Lup Haraorou has appealed to the public to continue the ongoing agitation until and unless the Armed Forces Special Powers Act was revoked and killers of Manorama punished according to the law of the land.

Manipur Literary Society and All Manipur Rickshaw Driver's And Pullers Welfare Association, in separate statements have also expressed their unstinted support to the ongoing people's agitation.
