Postal Dir highlights insurance schemes

Imphal, September 22 2015: Highlighting the various benefits provided under the Central sponsored schemes like Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojna (PMSBY) and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojna (PMJJBY), Director of Postal Service Manipur Vinod Kumar has urged the public to open postal saving accounts and avail the benefits.

Speaking to media persons at his office chamber located at the Head Post Office, Imphal, Vinod stated that the PMSBY insurance scheme was recently launched by the Prime Minister of India and it provides the public with numerous benefits.

The PMSBY insurance scheme is a one year cover personal accident insurance scheme available to people between 18 and 70 years of age and is renewable from year to year offering protection against death or disability due to accidents.

The scheme has an annual premium of Rs 12.In case of accidental death or full disability, the payment to the nominee will be benefited with Rs 2,00,000 and in case of partial disability Rs 1,00,000.Full disability has been defined as loss of use in both eyes, hands and feet while partial disability has been defined as loss of use in one eye, hand or foot.

All of these benefits can be availed from the post office saving accounts, he added.

Further he said that the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) is one year term life insurance scheme, renewable from year to year which offers protection against death or disability due to any reason.

For this scheme subscriber has to pay Rs 330 per annum as premium.

In case of death of the subscriber for any reason, the nominee will be benefited with Rs 2,00,000.He added that all saving bank account holders in the age of 18 to 50 years are eligible to apply for the scheme in the post office.

However, he said that the facility is available only in Core Banking Service (CBS) enabled post office and for Manipur the Head Post Office is CBS enabled.

He also added that in other ten post office branches of the State, the CBS facility will be provided by November.

He further informed that he has instructed the inspectors of seven postal subdivisions in the State to conduct awareness programmes for such schemes provided by the Central Government and also added that various awareness programmes will be held in rural areas.
