JAC Churachandpur submits Memo to Ashok Prasad; Apprises him of unrest

Imphal, September 22 2015:
Joint Action Committee (JAC) Churachandpur formed in the aftermath of the massive protests in the district, held a meeting with Special Secretary (Internal Security), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Ashok Prasad on Tuesday and apprised him of the current unrest in the hills districts including Churachandpur.
The JAC also submitted a 10-point memorandum to the MHA Special Secretary during the meeting at the office of the JAC at IB Road, Churachandpur Town.
In the memorandum, the JAC demanded the withdrawal of the three Bills passed by the Manipur Assembly and appealed the Centre to replace them with new Bills which will not affect the tribal communities.
It also demanded a separate administration for hills areas in Manipur.
Earlier in the morning, Churachandpur Women Society received Ashok Prasad at Kangvai.
Later, the Special Secretary took part in a public meeting held at Lamka Public Ground and also visited Churachandpur District Hospital where the mortal remains of the nine protesters were being kept.
While delivering a speech at the public gathering, Ashok Prasad said that he had been directed by MHA to interact with the people so that he could give a comprehensive report on the ongoing situation.
While offering condolences to the families of those who have lost their "dear ones", the Special Secretary said a difficult situation can only be moved forward with the "help and sympathetic participations of all the stake holders" .
"Some of you have already been interacting with the Central government and I am aware of their concerns and of the commitment of the Government in Delhi to join prosperity and peace of this region with the rest of the country", he said.
Ashok Prasad assured that it will be his endeavor to "understand the nuances and complexity of the situation" so that necessary and effective steps can be initiated at appropriate levels to bring back peace and stability to the area.
He said that the question of conducting a judicial inquiry into the incident is the State Government's prerogative.
