Imphal, May 06 2010: Objecting to the consent given by the Government of India to the proposed visit of NSCN (IM) general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah to Manipur, Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council has demanded the Central Government to review its decision.

The State unit CPI has also reportedly written to the party's National general secretary AB Bardhan and MP Gurudas Das Gupta in this regard.

In fact, general secretary of the CPI, AB Bardhan has written to the Prime Minister drawing his attention to the tense situation in Manipur.

"Apparently, Mr Muivah's visit is intended to be a journey to his birth place.

But in the context of the NSCN 's fight for Nagalim for Greater Nagaland is pregnant with serious consequences," asserted Bardhan.

The CPI leader further pointed out that the visit is not one of allowing a so called Indian citizen (Mr Muivah does not claim to be one).

Bardhan also questioned the freedom of movement inside India given to a man who claims he is not an Indian citizen.

Stating that serious questions have been raised over the territorial integrity of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, besides Manipur, the CPI leader urged the Prime Minister to dissuade Th Muivah to drop his plan to visit Manipur.

Addressing a press conference in this connection at the party office here today, State secretary of CPI/MSC L Iboyaima contended that the decision of the Central Government to allow Muivah to visit Manipur, at a time when the public are still apprehensive about the territorial integrity of the State and Naga bodies like ANSAM and UNC are launching various agitations including imposition of economic blockade to oppose conduct of election to the District Councils by the State Government, the Government of India, is a big mistake.

The Government of India should not be blind to the fact that the proposed visit of Muivah to different parts of Manipur and to hold a series of public meetings is indeed a challenge to the territorial integrity of Manipur.

So, the decision of allowing Muivah to visit Manipur should be reviewed immediately, Iboyaima said.

Highlighting these points, letter had been written to AB Bardhan, who in turned has communicated to CPI/MSC that the same has been forwarded to the Prime Minister, Iboyaima informed, adding that the copy of the same letter has also been submitted to party MP Gurudas Das Gupta who in turn would be taking up the issue in the Parliament tomorrow.

Former Minister Dr M Nara, who was also present during the press conference, pointed out that protection of the territorial integrity of the Northeastern States has been fully assured in the common minimum programme of the UPA Government.

The consent of the Central Government to allow Muivah to visit Manipur is a clear indication that the Central Government does not care about the issue of Manipur, he added.

Meanwhile, in protest against the decision of the Government of India to allow NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah to visit Manipur, Thanga Block Congress Committee organised a sit-in-protest demonstration at Moirang Khunou today.

Protestors used placards inscribed with slogans like 'Muivah can't enter Manipur', 'Central Government should not support him', etc.

At the end of the protest demonstration, the protestors burnt the effigy of Muivah while shouting slogans like 'Long live Manipur'.
