New Delhi, November 29 2010: Hundreds of people from the North East region gathered today at Jantar Mantar and held a silent protest against the continued sexual terrorism against North East women in the National capital under the aegis of Delhi Mizo Zirlai Pawl, Mizo Welfare association and Mizo Christian Fellowship.

In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, the collective Mizo organizations appealed for corrective actions for bringing the culprit to justice.

It urged that the victim be given substantial compensation at appropriate level.

It also reminded that the Delhi police actions need to be revised and that the police action over the past several instances of harassment and attacks on North East women have been inadequate.

Furthermore, the memorandum pointed out that security measures for women need to be improved.

The memorandum also underlined the responsibility of employers to ensure that their employees return home safely.

A copy of the memorandum was also submitted to all the North East Members of Parliament, the Vice President, National Commission for Women, Chief Minister and Governor of Mizoram, and Commissioner of Delhi police.

Besides several student representatives and community leaders, MPs of Arunachal Pradesh, and community leaders, Member of Parliament Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Mizoram were present in solidarity to silent protest.

The MPs have also stated that they brought out the issue in the parliament.

Lalbuakhluii , who coordinate the protest told this correspondent " we have not been heard since 2005, where the arrested for this same nature of crime committed on our women have not been convicted" .

She further said that holding a silent protest is to make sure that justice is being delivered and make sure that we (north east community) are being heard , " we feel neglected and marginalised " said Lalbiakhluii.\People of Manipur have also been staging Wakat Meepham every day, he said, adding that in such a situation, denying the people to know the exact status of RK Meghen for more than 2/3 months tantamounts to discriminatory and dictatorial rule against the people of Manipur.

The silence of the Congress led Government over the issue while the people are living in a state of uncertainty is condemnable.

So, the Chief Minister should make public the outcome of his meeting with the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister, Dr Nimaichand demanded.

Today's MPP meeting has also reportedly adopted a resolution to the effect of sending a fresh memorandum to the Government of India for revealing the whereabouts of RK Meghen at the earliest possible.
