Imphal, June 29 2024:
Pointing out that the presidential address given by President Droupadi Murmu to a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on the opening day of the 18th Lok Sabha on June 27 did not mention anything about the 14 months old Manipur crisis, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has decried that the presidential address reflected the Modi-led NDA Government's nonchalant attitude towards the Manipur crisis and the prolonged suffering of the people.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan, BT Road here today, MPCC working president K Devabrata said that the President's address given to the joint Parliament session on June 27 did not mention anything about the Manipur crisis or initiatives to resolve the crisis even though it talked about 30 different topics/subjects.
During his previous term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi neither visited Manipur nor spoke a single word about the violent crisis.
The same attitude is reflected in the President's address as Prime Minister Narendra Modi leads his third successive Government, Devabrata said.
Even as Manipur has been literally burning for the last 14 months, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not bothered to visit the State once.
It appears Modi has some personal grudges against Manipur, he remarked.
The President gave her address to the joint session of the Parliament after it was approved by the Union Cabinet.
As reflected by the omission of Manipur issue from the President's address, Prime Minister Narendra seemed determined not to spare any time or energy on the protracted issue of Manipur just as he did in the previous term.
It seemed the Prime Minister is determined to abandon the people of Manipur to their fates, Devabrata said.
In para 11, the President's address mentioned something about the North East region.
It claimed that several conflicts/disputes which were there in the region during the past 10 years have been settled but it did not specify the conflicts which have been resolved, he said.
The MPCC working president also pointed out that the prices of all essential commodities have doubled after 2016 .
As the prices have doubled, GST collection has also increased substantially.
Citing this increased GST collection, the NDA Government has been claiming that the country has achieved remarkable economic development, he said.
Reacting to a recent statement of Chief Minister N Biren that Kanglatongbi and Moreh were brought under ADCs during the Congress Government and the Congress Government did nothing to fence the Indo-Myanmar border, Devabrata maintained that the inculpability of Congress party is known to everyone despite all the attempts of N Biren to project the party in wrong light.
Pointing out that N Biren was with Congress party for a very long time, the MPCC working president remarked that N Biren's disparagement of Congress party is rather amusing.
To a query raised by media persons regarding the observation made by some people that Lok Sabha MP (Outer Manipur) Alfred Kanngam Arthur has not yet visited Jiribam after the district plunged into widespread violence, Devabrata said that Alfred Kanngam Arthur is not visiting Jiribam as the Parliament session is going on.
He would certainly go to Jiribam within a short time or once the Parliament session is over, Devabrata said.
Notably, Jiribam comes under Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
