One Kuki militant killed in blast; State forces carry out area domination exercise

One Kuki militant was killed and two others were seriously injured in a pompi bomb blast inside a bunker of Kuki militants located at Huikot village near Leimatak under Chura-chandpur district yesterday afternoon.
A blast shattered a bunker as Kuki militants mis- fired a pompi bomb (improvised mortar), killing one Kuki militant and injuring two others at around 1.40 pm on Friday, sources informed.
The Kuki militant who died on the spot has been identified as Paominlun Haokip (35) s/o (L) Jam-kholun of V Sinai village, Churachandpur.
The other two who sustained multiple injuries have been identified as Khup-thang (36) s/o (L) Paolam of T Phaijang village and TL Jems (36) s/o Manpao of Seitol village.

Their conditions are stated to be serious.
The injured Kuki militants were taken to Chura- chandpur district hospital for treatment while the dead body was deposited in the mortuary of the same hospital for post mortem, said the sources.
The concerned police station of Churachandpur has registered a case regarding the incident, the sources added.
On the other hand, State forces comprising Manipur Rifles, IRB, commandos and civil police led by COs and SPs of different battalions and districts carried out extensive area domination drives in different parts of the State last night.
Sources informed that combined teams of civil police, commando personnel, IRB and MR jointly visited different areas affected by the ongoing violence and carried out extensive area domination drives in the peripheral areas of Kakching, Sugnu, Wangoo and Moi-rang last night.
On their way to take stock of the present situation in the said areas, they were warmly welcomed by the locals and Meira Paibis.
Standing on the road and holding torches, the locals and Meira Paibis chanted slogans such as 'Long Live Manipur', 'Hail Manipur Police' etc.
The State forces held meetings with large numbers of local people at different junctions and they assured the local people that they (State forces) are there to protect the people of the State.
The local people also expressed satisfaction toward the State forces for taking up such major steps and ensuring safety of the public.
After the February 27 night incident, State forces have been working as a single unit, and they rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
On February 29 at around 10 pm when armed Kuki militants attacked civilians from Thamnapokpi Uyokching, Imphal East under Yainganpokpi police station using bombs and bullets, State security forces rushed to Thamnapokpi village and retaliated to the Kuki militants till wee hours.
The State forces finally brought the situation under control and pushed back the Kuki militants attacking Meitei villages.
