Bishnupur, March 19 2024:
Eta Tengbang Lup, a collective of the transgender members of Bishnupur to Narensheina, along with Lumlangdong Apunba Nupi Lup and Apunba Nupi Lup (ANUL), Bishnupur district on Tuesday staged a sit-in demonstration at the temporary market shed of Bishnupur Bazar demanding authorities concerned to end the ongoing violence in the state.
Addressing participants of the sit-in, Lamyanba Irabot Memorial Integrated Trust (LIMIT) president transgender activist Malem Thongam said that he started his hunger strike on February 22 at Delhi University Faculty of Arts and Jantar Mantar, demanding the restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur.
He continued that Delhi police rounded him up on February 27, handed him over to Maiba Khul Yaipha Nupi Lup in Imphal East district and taken to JNIMS emergency ward for treatment.
Stating that the hunger strike will continue till completion of one month of the movement on March 22, Malem cautioned of resorting to extreme steps if the government does not respond positively to his humble and genuine demand.
The activist also clarified that he launched the movement on his own volition without the influence of any other and out-rightly condemned alleged attempts to politicise his movement by few individuals as well as threat by miscreants to his family.
Meanwhile, ANUL president L Pramo Devi accused the union and state governments of nefariously scheming to create divisions among the people while cautioning that the people will launch intense agitation if the conflict is not resolved soon.
